The Oakland Raiders are playing a “home” game in Week 5. Not on a baseball field, nor in Oakland. Instead, the Raiders are “hosting” the Chicago Bears in London.

To combat time differences, the Raiders flew to England immediately after their Week 4 win over the Indianapolis Colts. They are staying at a golf resort, and most players haven't left outside of occasionally touring the country and participating in community events.

By staying an extended period, the Raiders are allowing themselves to have their body clocks adjusted and recover after the flight didn't allow them to do so. They are confident that it will help on Sunday.

“It has been wonderful,” Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said, via Scott Bair of NBC Sports. “We’ve had a great acclimation here to the time zone. The hotel setup is great, the practice field is sensational and we’re not going to have any negative impact on our performance because of the time zone. We’ll be ready to go.”

The extended stay in England is a change of strategy from last season. In 2018, the Raiders arrived on Friday morning, only to get walloped by the Seattle Seahawks two days later.

“I learned a valuable lesson that we needed a little more time to get acclimated,” Gruden said. “It was my first time last year coming to London playing football. I’m used to playing home games at home, so I made a mistake and tried to correct it this year. Hopefully, it shows on the field.”

Luckily, for Gruden and Co., they won't have to rush their way back home, as the NFL gives bye weeks after a team plays an international game.
