There are a number of running backs that have emerged as the top player at their position in the 2019 NFL season. However, head coach Jon Gruden is happy with the running back he got in Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs has established himself as one of the most promising, young players in the league thus far. Gruden says there is not another running in the NFL he would rather have on his team, via Marcus Mosher of the Raiders Wire:

“We couldn’t be happier with him. He’s a great kid, he’s got slashing ability, he can break tackles, he’s got a powerful stiff arm, he’s taking care of the ball, he’s a good receiver and he’s going to get better. We wouldn’t trade him for any backs.”

Gruden's comments may seem a bit far-fetched considering all the elite running backs in the league. It is safe to say that fans would not be opposed to the prospect of having Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey or New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara at their disposal. Regardless, there is no denying that Jacobs is well on his way to throwing his name in the conversation.

It is encouraging to see that the investment the team made in taking him with the 24th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The rookie has emerged as one of the frontrunners to take home Rookie of the Year honors while serving as the Raiders' workhorse back. Gruden's comments indicate that he is looking to keep it that way for years to come.
