As Aaron Donald and the Los Angeles Rams finish up the final steps to get a contract extension done, the Oakland Raiders and Khalil Mack haven't been making any progress towards a deal and it doesn't look like a deal is going to get any time soon.

There have been a lot of rumors that Mack and the Raiders have been waiting for Donald to get a deal done, but as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, there is one glaring issue with that idea: the two sides haven't talked since February.

Last year, Donald held out until the regular season started, so there was no way Mack would be banking on a deal getting done before the season started unless he is willing to sit out regular-season games.

What is more likely the case is the Raiders don't have the money right now to pay Mack a signing bonus after coach Jon Gruden went on a spending spree this offseason. That couldn't have been easy for Mack to watch, because the Raiders knew that he wanted to get a long-term deal done and Gruden and the front office decided to put their money in other places.

Gruden has talked about wanting to get Mack back in the mix, but financially right now they might not have the money for that to happen and it's unclear if Mack will be willing to continue the holdout into the season. If he does decide to miss regular-season games, he will be fined over $800,000 each game.
