Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is finally healthy after missing the last two games due to a shoulder injury and will play in the big NFC showdown against Aqib Talib and the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Talib has been impressed with what he’s seen from Trubisky and heaped some significant praise onto the second-year QB ahead of their first-ever matchup. The Rams cornerback even compared the Trubisky to a combination of two of the best quarterbacks around — the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson and the Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton.

That’s certainly high praise from Talib, especially considering that Wilson and Newton are two of the most talented and accomplished quarterbacks in the league. Wilson has already won a Super Bowl, while Newton has also been to one and has won a league MVP.

Trubisky is having a decent sophomore season, with 20 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and an average of 247 yards per game. But it’s his ability as a runner which has helped those comparisons with Wilson and Newton. Trubisky is averaging five runs per game, for an average of 7.1 yards per carry.

Of course, Trubisky still has some way to go to fully reach the level of a Wilson or a Newton. But he’s showing that he does have the potential to get to that level in his first season under Matt Nagy and has led the Bears to the top of the NFC North.

If Trubisky can successfully navigate a huge upset win over the Rams, then people will likely have to take Talib’s lofty Wilson/Newton comparison a little more seriously.
