Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff is not enthralled by the idea of playing without fans at the start of the 2020 NFL season.

While Goff acknowledged the severity of the public health issue amid the coronavirus pandemic, he said it is hard to fathom playing in an empty SoFi Stadium (via Cameron DaSilva):

“Not ideal,” Goff said on a video conference call. “Not what you want to do. I understand there are a lot of bigger implications in place right now as far as health of the world. But I know that’s not the vision we had moving to L.A. and I know that’s not the vision Mr. Kroenke had, ultimately, but if that is what it is, we have to roll with it.”

Numerous athletes have appeared hesitant to even ponder the notion of playing without fans in the seats, though it is slightly more pertinent for the Rams.

Los Angeles will be in their inaugural season in SoFi Stadium in Inglewood after spending the previous three years at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The new stadium spearheaded the effort to rebrand the franchise, which also boasts a new logo for the 2020 season.

However, the uncertain nature of the pandemic clouds the future of the NFL, even though the regular season is still over four months away.

In fact, coronavirus is already impacting some of the opening ceremonies at SoFi. Pop superstar Taylor Swift was supposed to hold a series of concerts to open SoFi in July, but those shows have since been canceled.

As Goff stated, the situation is “Not ideal.” But at the same time, these are unprecedented times, and the reality is the NFL might have to start the 2020 season without fans.
