Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman has been a solid part of the defense over the last few years, but he could be a potential cap cut as the team tries to find more cap space. Rick Hammond of The Athletic broke down what the offseason might look like for the Rams, and he put Robey-Coleman and Clay Matthews as guys who could be moved on from.

“The more realistic options for the Rams would be linebacker Clay Matthews and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman. Cutting loose Matthews would save the Rams $3.75 million, with $2 million in dead cap. Cutting Robey-Coleman would save $4 million, with $500,000 in dead cap.”

“Robey-Coleman is one of the Rams’ most effective defensive players, though, and while Matthews perhaps wasn’t as productive in 2019 as hoped, he still has value, and the Rams might need him even more if Fowler and/or Littleton do not return.”

Even though he is listed as a cut candidate and the team would save money by moving on from him, it's still hard to imagine that is the direction the team would want to go.

Robey-Coleman is one of the better cornerbacks in the league, and at this price point, the team isn't going to find a better option. According to Spotrac.com, the Rams are projected to have almost $24 million in cap space, but it's clear they would like some more to try and be players in free agency.

There are other ways for the team to go, but cutting Robey-Coleman would be the biggest mistake of the offseason.
