The Los Angeles Rams are taking a running back by committee approach to begin the season and their rookie rusher is going to be sidelined on Sunday. According to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry, Cam Akers has been officially ruled out in Week 3 versus the Buffalo Bills.

During last Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Akers suffered a rib injury after landing on top of the football. After undergoing tests, it was revealed that Akers had separated some of his rib cartilage.

Despite the injury sounding like a severe one, Sean McVay said that Akers “should be ok” for the Rams. However, as Los Angeles prepares for Buffalo in Week 3, the first-year running back is going to be unavailable on Sunday.

In the first two weeks of the season, Akers has been given the nod as the starter in each game for the Rams. The No. 52 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft was able to rush for only 39 yards on 14 carries. While he struggled to get anything going in Week 1, Malcolm Brown emerged as the go-to guy for the Rams at running back.

Then, in Week 2, with Akers and Brown leaving the game with injuries, it was Darrell Henderson that thrived with the opportunity he was given. Brown is dealing with a fractured finger that he received surgery on earlier this week.

Surprisingly enough, Brown has returned to practice and is sporting a splint on his finger. Even though Brown is expected to play on Sunday, Henderson figures to see an expanded workload with Akers sidelined for at least a week.
