Already in his fourth season as the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach, Sean McVay still gets hyped every time the NFL schedule is released, and this year is no exception.

“It’s exciting. I think the thing that stands out, you always look at that opener,” said McVay in an interview with NFL Network.

For this season, the Rams will kick off their 2020 campaign in a nationally-televised game against the Dallas Cowboys.

“To be able to start in SoFi Stadium on Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys, couldn’t be more excited about that, so that should be great.”

From where things currently stand, it will be the first major event at the sparkling-new $5B facility. The Rams will have the Chargers as co-tenants of SoFi Stadium.

McVay hopes that the move to their new home will bring good fortunes and rebound from a subpar 2019 season wherein the Rams posted a 9-7 record. They were on the outside looking in and missed the playoffs just a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance.

The Rams would want to take care of business at home early on since they will a tough schedule for 2020. Other than dealing with what should be a competitive NFC West, Los Angeles will spend the next five of their seven games on the road.

Dallas is currently favored by oddsmakers to win the Sunday Night Football showdown by three points.

Los Angeles will have its bye on Week 9, a situation McVay finds favorable for his squad.

“That’s always ideal. The longevity of a season, to have that right in the middle serves in a great spot for us. We’ve been fortunate where our bye weeks have fallen around that week.”
