Several NFL teams have released statements recently regarding the death of George Floyd and the ongoing police brutality protests happening around the country. However, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has taken the opportunity to turn the recent tragic events into a learning experience for him and his team.

Per Greg Beachem of the Associated Press, the Rams held a team meeting on Monday regarding the death of George Floyd as well as the overall situation in the United States.

“It was really powerful, the amount of guys that had the strength to stand up to share their experiences. You talk about an amazing learning experience for me.”

As for the team as a whole, the organization released an official statement on Sunday. Along with team statements, several players and coaches across the league have also spoken out on Floyd's death and other situations. Among the many protests going on around the country, Los Angeles has become a major hub for the demonstrations. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also released a statement this week but it was widely criticized for being uninspired and hypocritical.

On the coaching field, McVay and the Rams took a step back in 2019 after a Super Bowl appearance the season before. Los Angeles would end up going a respectable 9-7 for the season but in the competitive NFC West division, that simply wasn't enough to make the postseason.

After not making the playoffs for the first time in McVay's three years as head coach, the Rams will look to bounce back in 2020 and recapture their throne atop the division.
