Head coach Sean McVay was unable to bring his Los Angeles Rams back to the postseason in 2019. Despite the team fresh off of a trip to the Super Bowl by way of capturing both NFC West and NFC Championships, the Rams will be heading back to square one on both sides of the ball in 2020.

Even so, it appears as though McVay won't be making huge changes on the defensive side of the football as Rams new defensive coordinator Brandon Staley solidified such a notion this week.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Staley recently said of whether the Rams will stay in a 3-4 defense going forward. “I think that’s why it was such a good fit. Sean was very specific in what he was looking for. He didn’t want to make wholesale changes because this was a very good defense. So I think stylistically, it’ll be similar to what has been here before.”

Staley is currently gearing up for his first season as the Rams defensive coordinator while the Los Angeles newcomer will indeed have some pretty big shoes to fill moving forward. The Rams infamously elected to part ways with NFL legend and now former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips earlier in the offseason, paving the way for Staley to step into the spotlight alongside McVay.

Unfortunately for Staley and the rest of the Rams' defense, Los Angeles will be forced to continue to deal with an incredibly dangerous NFC West division next season. The San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Arizona Cardinals all remain poised to be quite competitive in 2020.
