Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is one of the most dominant offensive players in the league. He expects to be treated as such by opposing defenses.

At this point in his career, teams know full well that Gurley is the engine of this high-powered offense. Even he admits that defenses should do whatever they can to stop him, via Cameron DaSilva of the Rams Wire:

“Yeah, I would hope so. If not, then the coach is probably not good. [Cardinals had] a great game plan, but still couldn’t stop me from getting into the end zone. But, that’s why we have an all-around team,” Gurley said.

It goes without saying that Gurley has earned the right to speak with such confidence. The jury had been out on him following a sophomore slump during the 2016 campaign. However, he followed it up by winning Offensive Player of the Year honors and is now widely considered the best running back in the league.

Part of what makes Gurley so dominant is his versatile skill set. His ability to break off a 20-yard run is matched only by his receiving prowess out of the backfield. This makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. He was right when he said the Arizona Cardinals had a solid game plan for him. They actually managed to hold him to just 73 yards from scrimmage, however, he was still able to find the end zone three times before leaving the game with cramps. That said, it appears defenses can only hope to contain Gurley moving forward.
