Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri apologized for the upheaval surrounding the organization after he traded star DeMar DeRozan in a blockbuster trade for Kawhi Leonard earlier this week.

The front office boss urged that he would do “anything in his power” to honor DeRozan in the near future.

“He’s the greatest player to play for the Raptors to this point,” said Ujiri, according to Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post. “No one can dispute that.”

Ujiri had previously explained his reasoning for trading DeRozan and starting anew with the estranged Leonard, who is still pending a much-awaited team physical.

“When you are in my position, you always have to be open in what you do,” said Ujiri, explaining that “maybe I should have handled it better” when referring to his conversation with DeRozan before the trade.

DeRozan had reportedly spoken with Raptors brass last week during the Las Vegas Summer League, addressing the trade rumors and getting the assurance that his involvement wasn't at risk.

While it's still unclear what was said and what wasn't, it's clear that DeRozan disagrees, judging by his Instagram story, which came up shortly after Ujiri's one-man press conference ended.

If DeRozan is looking for loyalty, he is in the road for a good place, going perhaps to the epitome of loyalty-first franchises in the San Antonio Spurs.

Though it seems like it will take some time to fix his relationship with Ujiri if it's at all mendable.
