Forget the Los Angeles Lakers and any other teams previously rumored to be in pursuit of disgruntled San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard. As right now, it appears that the Toronto Raptors are the ones who are making progress with regards to a possible acquisition of Leonard via a trade.

As a guest on TSN’s SportCentre, Brian Windhorst of ESPN spoke about how the Raptors have assembled a package for San Antonio in hopes of landing Leonard while also noting that Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri is in constant contact with the Spurs (h/t Chris Walder of theScore).

During an appearance on TSN's SportsCentre, ESPN's Brian Windhorst noted that the Raptors have made a “compelling offer” to San Antonio for the All-Star forward, and that team president Masai Ujiri has been negotiating with the Spurs while in Africa.

Leonard’s continues to be mum on his own situation and his silence has become deafening, leading to plenty of speculations. His persistence to remain quiet only adds to the conundrum of teams with interest in him, but could not pull the trigger on the negotiating table because of Leonard’s vague plans beyond the 2018-19 season.

Kawhi Leonard has a year left on his current deal, which means he is bound to become a free agent at the end of next season. How much value teams like the Raptors are willing to give up for an asset who may very well turn out to be a one-year rental appears to be the most intriguing point of contention.
