Longtime Cincinnati Reds announcer and FOX Sports broadcaster Thom Brennaman used a homophobic slur during the first game of the team's doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals.

There was a long pause in the broadcast before the hot mics picked up Brennman saying “one of the f– capitals of the world,” though it is unknown exactly what reference he was making.

It appeared the crew had gone to commercial before returning live, with Brennaman failing to realize he was back on the air. Regardless, an absolutely abhorrent display and total lack of professionalism (via ESPN's Jeff Passan).

Brennaman is still calling the second leg of the doubleheader, but it would hardly come as a surprise if he faces discipline.

Local outlets have reached out to both the Reds and FOX Sports OHIO for comment, though there has yet to be any sort of official response.

Unfortunately, this is hardly the latest incident in broadcasting. The Charlotte Hornets radio announcer was suspended after tweeting out a racial slur.

Nevertheless, this is a bad look for the Reds and their longtime announcer Thom Brennaman.

UPDATE: Brennaman was suspended from the Reds' broadcast, but FOX Sports will not bring him back to broadcast NFL games, per ESPN.
