Many fans expected Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins to have a breakout campaign heading into the 2020 NFL season.

However, his development hasn't turned out well as expected, and it could result in him getting benched, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

Sources say Haskins enters a critical stretch for his own development and must improve greatly for him to keep the job. In fact, there is a chance if it goes particularly badly today, Haskins could be pulled at some point in favor of Kyle Allen, who was with Ron Rivera in Carolina.

Dwayne Haskins has now led his team to two straight losses after their opening game victory against division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Week 3 saw the sophomore gunslinger come out with an awful performance as they visited the Cleveland Browns. He threw three picks in the game which ended on a 34-20 losing effort. He has also been sacked a total of 10 times in three games thus far.

While Haskins is struggling on the field, third-year playmaker Kyle Allen is patiently waiting for his turn to play under center. The University of Houston product served as a backup to Cam Newton back with the Carolina Panthers under current Washington head coach Ron Rivera from 2018 to 2019.

He was also an understudy to Scott Turner who served as the quarterback coach with the Panthers before taking on the offensive coordinator role in Washington.

Despite going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen saw his opportunities on the field and has a season-plus full of starts under his belt, including three games in 2019 with higher than a 100 passer rating.

Haskins must flip the switch and improve his level of play on the field as early as now before the organization fully decides to move on from him.

The former Ohio State Buckeye will aim to impress as Washington attempts to upset the Baltimore Ravens in their Week 4 matchup on October 4.
