The Philadelphia Eagles looked like they were going to run away with a victory in Week 1 versus the Washington Football Team. However, after beginning with an early 17-0 lead, Washington completed the unlikely comeback while logging eight sacks as a team.

Heading into the game, the Eagles were extremely shorthanded with a bevy of injuries to some of their notable players. Altogether, Miles Sanders, Andre Dillard, Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks, and Alshon Jeffery were all sidelined against Washington.

Of course, both Dillard and Brooks are out for the season, forcing the Eagles to put together a makeshift offensive line. As a result of the injury woes in the trenches, Carson Wentz was under duress all game. Wentz was sacked eight times by Washington, had two interceptions, and lost one fumble.

To begin the game, the Eagles would score two quick touchdowns on passes to Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. The score was 17-0 and Philadelphia appeared to be trending toward an easy win over their NFC East rivals. But after going down 17 points, Ron Rivera's Washington squad seemed to flip a switch.

Despite their double-digit deficit, Washington's defense would continue to battle, making life tough on Wentz and Philadelphia's offense. At the same time, Dwayne Haskins and the offense continued to capitalize on the opportunities the defense was given to them.

Washington would proceed to score 27 unanswered points to pull off what seemed to be an impossible upset. While the Eagles were dealing with a plethora of injuries on Sunday, Washington deserves a ton of credit for how they competed. Without a doubt, Rivera will be content with how his team performed in Week 1.

It's the first victory in the post-“Redskins” era and the first for the Washington Football Team.
