Early Tuesday morning, the New York Knicks finally made the decision to part ways with team president Phil Jackson after three abysmal seasons.

Following that major move, the Knicks have quickly shifted gears toward looking to improve the roster. Ian Begley of ESPN reports that the front office is eyeing the possibility of acquiring former All-Star point guard Jeff Teague in free agency.

With Phil Jackson out and the triangle de-emphasized, the Knicks, under general manager Steve Mills, have interest in free agent point guard Jeff Teague, league sources told ESPN. League sources say the interest in Teague is mutual. The Knicks, under Mills, had talked to the Hawks about trading for Teague two years ago.

The connection between general manager Steve Mills and Teague could serve as a big starting point between both sides given their familiarity with each other. Although the team just selected point guard Frank Ntilikina with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft last week, this move would provide them with a proven commodity that Ntilikina can learn from.

Teague is coming off a productive campaign with the Indiana Pacers, averaging 15.3 points, a career-high 7.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Adding Teague would likely signal the end of Derrick Rose‘s tenure with the organization after one season. Recent reports stated that the Knicks were interested in bringing back Rose, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

With the free agency period set to begin on Friday night, the Knicks could be one of the busier teams in altering their roster.
