Scott Brooks will have a lot of suitors in the coming weeks, but it appears that he's circled the Los Angeles Lakers as a potential destination.

While the Lakers still have Byron Scott as their head coach, there is no guarantee that he'll be back with Los Angeles for the 2016-17 season. According to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, Brooks is interested if a head coaching vacancy does open up with the Lakers.

There are currently two huge road blocks that may prevent a Brooks and Lakers pairing from actually happening. One of the reasons is Scott still has one year left on his contract with the Lakers. The other reason being that the Washington Wizards have targeted Brooks as the prime candidate for their own head coaching vacancy.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak didn't give Scott a definitive seal of approval for the 2016-17 season, according to Pincus:

“Byron and the staff are under contract. We'll take a couple of days. That could be three or four days or a week, let things settle down a little bit, and meet.”

Despite Kupchak leaving the door open to sacking Scott, the current Lakers coach recently said he does expect to be the head coach again next season.

All things considered, Brooks has been a better head coach than Scott. Before his firing from the Oklahoma City Thunder last year, Brooks was the NBA's Coach of the Year in 2010 and posted a .620 winning percentage in seven years with the Thunder. While Scott has been to two NBA Finals (2002, 2003) as a head coach, he hasn't had a winning season since the 2008-09 campaign.

Needles to say, both Brooks and the Lakers will have important decisions to make over the coming days.
