The Houston Rockets came so painfully close to ending the Golden State Warriors’ monarchy in the Western Conference, as they fell short of taking down Stephen Curry and company in the Conference Finals. The Rockets were up 3-2 in the series at one point, but a Chris Paul hamstring injury in Game 6 and some questionable officiating made the task of beating the Warriors beyond manageable for Houston, which finished the regular season with the league’s best record of 65-17.
If anything, at least the Rockets became the first team since Kevin Durant took his talents to the Bay Area to put the Warriors’ backs on the rope in the playoffs.
Despite the bitter end of their season, expect the Rockets and their management to continue training their attention on ways to take the Warriors down, which, based on Houston general manager Daryl Morey’s interview with ESPN recently, is a team goal that is almost on the same level as that of winning an NBA title.

So that's all we work on. Obviously, there's other very good-to-great teams in this league, but the Warriors are likely on to winning three of the last four titles.”
Daryl Morey will again use his fixation on beating the Warriors as an inspiration this offseason in making some tough decisions. For one, they have to decide on the contracts of Chris Paul and Clint Capela, who are both about to become free agents at the end of the season.
