Count Hakeem Olajuwon among the growing list of NBA personalities to donate a substantial amount to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort. The Houston Rockets legend pledged a $150,000 contribution to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s fundraising effort, per the Houston Rockets’ official Twitter account.

Olajuwon has inextricable ties to the city of Houston and is one of its most beloved athletes. He came over from Nigeria as a teenager to play four years of college basketball at the University of Houston, which he almost led to a national championship in 1983, then played 17 of his 18 years in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and was instrumental in delivering the franchise’s two NBA titles in 1994 and 1995.
Earlier this week, brand new Houston Rocket Chris Paul and Rockets owner Les Alexander donated substantial amounts to J.J. Watt’s Flood Relief Fund and Mayor Turner’s Relief Fund, respectively.
Sacramento Kings rookies and Houston natives De'Aaron Fox and Justin Jackson and San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan are also among the many members of the NBA community who have lent a helping hand to Harvey victims.
