With Joe Johnson deciding to join the Houston Rockets after clearing waivers, it has left the team with a big decision on who to part ways with in order to open a roster spot for him. While it was initially reported that Troy Williams will the odd man out, it appears that they will be keeping him instead, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

Should that be the case, it will most likely be Bobby Brown that they will release so the Rockets will have an open spot for the signing of the veteran shooting guard. Joe Johnson committed to Houston last week after reaching a buyout agreement with his former team, the Utah Jazz. He was long rumored to be a candidate for a trade, but with no deal made by last week's deadline, the buyout was the avenue the Jazz opted to take with him, which will be beneficial for both parties.

Keeping Troy Williams with the Rockets will give them more depth at the small forward spot. He went undrafted in 2016 but never gave up on his NBA dream. He was signed by the Memphis Grizzlies that season and appeared in 24 games for them, before getting released and taking his talents to the G-League. The 23-year-old Indiana product has since bounced from Houston and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers this campaign, but could get more run in the NBA if the Rockets will indeed keep him.

Williams' versatility on both ends of the floor makes him very valuable, as he can play and defend multiple positions. He has already appeared in the six games for the Rockets so far, with averages of 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.3 minutes.
