MLB’s top prospect is officially a big leaguer. Bobby Witt Jr of the Kansas City Royals is going to break camp with the team, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

Witt Jr. has enjoyed a superb Spring Training and left the Royals with no option but to place him on the big league roster. He has hit over .400 with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 7 RBI’s, and a stolen base during the spring.

Witt Jr, a 21-year old shortstop, beat out fellow 2019 draftee Adley Rutschman for MLB’s number one overall prospect. One major difference between the two is that Rutschman is already 24 while Witt Jr is just 21!

He has scout grades of over 60 in each major category. His standout categories where he has a 70 are power and his overall. He is ranked at 60 in hitting, running, arm, and field. Many scouts believe he has the potential to become a five-tool superstar in the MLB while patrolling a premier position down the road.

However, it is unclear where he will play defensively for Kansas City. The team has shortstop Aldaberto Mondesi on the roster, so Witt Jr could end up playing third base to start his career. It is also possible that given his prospect pedigree, the Royals immediately opt to place him at shortstop.

Regardless, Bobby Witt Jr profiles as a star in the making. This home run excited the league earlier in Spring Training and even earned a reaction from superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes

There is no question that Witt Jr has all of the potential to become one of baseball’s best players. Royals and MLB fans alike are excited for what the future has in store for the 21-year old.
