Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals was named MLB’s top prospect entering the 2022 season. Witt Jr. reminded us all of why he was named MLB’s top prospect when he hammered this majestic home run yesterday in a Spring Training game vs. the Oakland Athletics. And although he has yet to play an official game in the Major Leagues, Witt Jr. is already receiving praise from an NFL superstar who happens to be a Royals minority owner. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shouted out the Royals young shortstop by sharing a tweet where he posted bomb emojis in relation to the bomb that Witt Jr. hit.

Last year in the minors, Bobby Witt Jr. posted a slash line of .290/.361/.576 to go along with a .936 OPS between Triple-A and Double-A. Additionally, he smoked 33 home runs and drove in 97 runs while stealing 29 bases. He has an uncanny mixture of power, speed, and defense which has people around the sport excited for what the future may have in store for him.

As for Mahomes' role in all of this, he became a minority owner of the team during the summer of 2020. Mahomes's father was a former big league pitcher and Mahomes himself grew up playing baseball, so it came as no surprise that he displayed interest in the sport. The Pro Bowl QB and Super Bowl champion has expressed how much he loves the people of Kansas City and it seems as if he is destined to stay with the Chiefs for a long while.

And when he leaves the gridiron down the road, perhaps he will become even more involved in baseball activities as the Royals owner. For now, it is safe to say he has a pretty sweet gig as quarterback for one of the best teams in the NFL.

With all of this being said, it was pretty cool to see a star like Patrick Mahomes giving his stamp of approval to one of the Kansas City Royals brightest young prospects.
