With the summer transfer window set to open up in mere weeks, Arsenal is already looking ahead to the possibility of signing Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal is eyeing a “swoop” for Zinchenko. The club’s interest in the versatile defender stems from manager Mikel Arteta, who had a front-row seat to watch him develop while serving as an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Zinchenko is being viewed as an option by Arsenal to bolster its depth in the midfield, although the club could feature him as a left-back “when required.”

Zinchenko just capped off his sixth season with Manchester City, which included appearing in 15 Premier League fixtures for the reigning England top flight champions.

As was the case in previous campaigns, Guardiola was quite creative in just how he featured Zinchenko in his starting 11 this past season. For one, the left-back was slotted into the midfield for Manchester City’s 2-1 home win over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League group stage, although he completed a mere 21 passes and did not win a single ground duel during his time on the pitch.

Even as Zinchenko has been linked with clubs such as West Ham United over the past year, the Premier League powerhouse has still opted to keep him on the roster. Overall, he has two more seasons remaining on his contract.
