Aldon Smith seemed to get his career back on track in 2020 after years of off-field issues. But he once again finds himself in trouble with the law, just days after signing with the Seattle Seahawks.

Smith is reportedly wanted for a second-degree battery charge. The incident allegedly took place in the New Orleans area and was on video according to law enforcement officials, per Travers Mackel of WDSU.

This would be an unfortunate and troubling setback for a guy who had to work hard to regain trust and get back in the NFL.

Aldon Smith was one of the budding young stars as a member of the San Francisco 49ers in the early 2010s. He was named First-Team All-Pro after a monstrous 2012 season. But his career would spiral downwards.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI in September of 2013 and checked himself into rehab later that year. He previously turned himself in on three felony counts of possessing illegal assault weapons in 2012.

The 31-year-old continued to struggle with substance abuse issues. After being suspended nine games by the NFL in August of 2014, Smith was arrested on hit-and-run, DUI and vandalism charges the following year. He was released by the Niners shortly thereafter.

Aldon Smith was eventually signed by the Raiders, only to be handed an indefinite suspension. He later was detained by the San Francisco Police Department on multiple domestic violence-related charges in 2017 and 2018. A full timeline can be seen here.

The extent of the investigation is unknown. But Smith's NFL future very well could be in jeopardy once again after getting a fresh start with the Seahawks.
