The Chicago Bears courted Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson throughout this NFL offseason. Sadly for the team, their pursuit is over, at least according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported that the Bears made “a very aggressive” pursuit for Wilson but were told that the Seahawks are not interested at trading him at this time.

The Bears were one of the four teams that had the interest of Wilson and his agent, but it seems Chicago has moved on to Andy Dalton, whom they signed to a one-year contract worth $10 million and an opportunity to earn another $3 million in incentives. The incentives, of course, will depend on Dalton's performance this season.

The latest move by the Bears could be considered an absolute gut punch for the franchise given that they wanted to go big and make a move for a player like Russell Wilson or even Deshaun Watson. Just last weekend, Chicago felt that they were in the mix to trade for Wilson, but the Seahawks were likely not allured by Nick Foles—the only quarterback under contract with Chicago at that time.

Since the Bears' aggressive pursuit for Wilson did not go well, Chicago ran out of quarterback options ahead of the NFL draft. This eventually led them to quickly strike a deal with Dalton, who started in nine games for the Dallas Cowboys last season. Dalton recorded a total of of 2,170 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the season.

As for Wilson, the Seahawks  remain bullish on making sure they get the right assets in return for the quarterback. Wilson's future in Seattle has been one of the most anticipated stories in the NFL offseason thus far.
