For now, the jury is still out on DK Metcalf's prospects of developing into a high-level wide receiver at the NFL level. What's been abundantly clear dating back to his days at Ole Miss, though, is the rookie's incredible athleticism and all-around physical profile. As such, it should come as no surprise that his body seems to have responded abnormally well to going under the knife.

Metcalf underwent minor surgery to address knee pain two weeks ago, and according to coach Pete Carroll, his recovery in such a short amount of time has been “fantastic.”

“He looked good today,” Carroll said of Metcalf on Monday, per Patrick Olde Loohuis of Seahawks Wire. “He had a fantastic recovery. If you can imagine, it was just a couple weeks ago. Fantastic recovery. He looked great out there and today, he was running. He practiced with us throughout the practice.”

Metcalf returned to practice on Monday after missing Seattle's last two exhibition games following his surgery. Though his status for Sunday's season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals remains uncertain, Carroll's optimism suggests he will be ready to play lest he suffer a setback during practice this week.

Once considered a potential top-10 pick due to his freakish combination of size, strength, and speed, Metcalf fell all the way to bottom the second round on draft night before the Seahawks snatched him up at No. 64. If healthy enough to play in Week 1, expect Metcalf to see a steady diet of snaps on the outside, where his rare physical gifts make him an imminently-threatening target down the field.
