When the Seattle Seahawks selected wide receiver D.K. Metcalf in the second round of the NFL Draft back in April, no one questioned his talent. People just wondered if he could put it all together on the professional level.

It seems safe to say Metcalf has done that and then some during his rookie campaign, as he has logged 50 catches for 783 yards and five touchdowns thus far, and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is loving it:

“You start with the talent, I think. You start with the fact that the minute we got him, nobody was more excited than Russell Wilson. That’s a huge advantage,” said Schottenheimer, per Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk. “You see him out here every day. You see him sitting over there still catching passes (from the jugs machine). Meanwhile, most of the other guys are getting showered up getting ready for meetings. He’s a special young man. He wants to be great.”

During the Seahawks' loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday, Metcalf managed to tally six grabs for 78 yards in spite of being covered by Jalen Ramsey, including a 35-yard catch over the top-flight cornerback:

“The catch he made on the scramble play down on the boundary on Jalen Ramsey, the throw was terrific, but the catch was unbelievable,” Schottenheimer said. “I thought he really accepted the challenge. Last game, he got matched by Jalen. He didn’t back down at all. That was really cool to see.”

Seattle is 10-3 on the season and appears to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender, and a surprisingly impressive receiving corps is a big reason why.

The Seahawks will take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
