Earl Thomas was having a huge 2018 NFL season for the Seattle Seahawks before going down with a season-ending broken leg against the Arizona Cardinals last week. It was an injury that caused major drama throughout the NFL due to the situation between Thomas and the Seahawks from a contract perspective.

Before the season, Thomas had requested a trade from the Seahawks or a new contract to protect himself. Seattle refused to do either and Thomas still decided to play for them. The injury is going to hurt his value moving forward and his contract certainly isn't keeping him safe by any stretch of the imagination.

More news has come out about the severity of Thomas' leg injury.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Thomas will have to have a rod inserted into his leg during surgery this week.

Anytime a rod is inserted into someone's leg, there are major concerns about their long-term future. Can he return to full health? The report does state that he should be at full health when free agency opens up.

Thomas will undergo surgery this week to have a rod inserted in his left leg, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The procedure increases Thomas' chances of a full recovery and lowers the possibility of another fracture, Rapoport reported. In addition, Thomas should be at full health when the free-agent signing period begins on March 11.

In the four games that Thomas was able to play in this season for the Seahawks, he recorded 22 tackles to go along with three interceptions and five defended passes.

Seattle is going to miss Thomas and it is very likely that he has played his last snap with the team. As he was being carted off the field following his injury, Thomas flipped off his own sideline. That should say enough about his thoughts about the franchise to show that he won't be back.
