The Seattle Seahawks just got dealt a severe blow. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed will be suspended for the first six games of the 2019 season, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

According to Rapoport, the suspension was for an incident from a couple of years ago. The ban was “for a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy for an incident from early 2017. He was not charged or arrested. His appeal was denied Friday morning,” he writes.

The Seahawks likely knew this was coming, but this is still a huge loss. A 2016 second-round pick, Reed has started 31 games for Seattle the past two seasons. Last season he had 50 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries.

The Seahawks already traded Frank Clark earlier this offseason, so they'll now be missing their two best defensive linemen and almost all of their sack production from last season.

Seattle will miss Reed sorely, and they don't have anyone who can be expected to step up and offer double-digit sack production. Clark had 13 sacks last year, so they now have two huge holes on the defensive line.

For Reed, this certainly isn't what he needed as he enters a contract year. Reed is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, and this isn't going to help him in his quest to get paid this coming spring.

After trading away Michael Bennett before last season, the Seahawks' defensive front is going to look nearly unrecognizable at the start of this season. They'll be counting on first-round pick L.J. Collier, a TCU product, to play a significant role as a rookie.
