The Seattle Seahawks endured a tumultuous 2017 season, to say the least. As a result, some heavy changes to the coaching staff were expected, and linebacker K.J. Wright is quite happy with the return of Ken Norton Jr.

The Seahawks nearly cleaned house with the release of coordinators Darrell Bevell and Kris Richard. They subsequently replaced them with Brian Schottenheimer and Norton moving forward.

During an interview with 950 KJR, Wright expressed his relief after hearing that Norton Jr. was returning to Seattle:

“When it did happen I was wondering, like, who is out there that knows how we play, knows how we operate, knows the system like that,” he said. “And when they told us coach Norton, I was very relieved, very happy because he played 13 years in the league, he coached at USC with coach Carroll and in the NFL, won a Super Bowl with us, so he’s going to be just fine. He’s the type of guy that can not only impact the defense but impact the entire team. He’s just that great of a guy, that influential. So when he gets in here, I think you’ll see a big turnaround with our team.”

The reason Wright was so relieved by Norton Jr.'s return is obvious, as he was his position coach for the first three seasons of his career. Prior to his brief stint with the Oakland Raiders, Norton Jr. served under head coach Pete Carroll for over a decade at USC and then Seattle.

Needless to say, he is extremely familiar with the Seahawks' organization and how they like to do things. Seattle has long been revered for its formidable defense; however, after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2011, it is clear that they must get back to their roots to replicate that kind of success again.
