Did Russell Wilson need yet another speedy wide receiver with the frame of a Greek god? Probably not. Did that stop the Seattle Seahawks from getting one? No. Josh Gordon is headed to the Pacific Northwest.

On Friday, the Seahawks were officially awarded Josh Gordon from waivers. In doing so, the team has given Wilson another option to take advantage of his pristine deep ball. Wilson, as he should be, is excited about the acquisition, as he took to Twitter to say:

Why wouldn't Wilson be excited? Now he can drop back and see Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and Gordon burning defenses with their high-end speed. For one of the best anticipatory deep-ball throwers the NFL has ever seen, that means more opportunities to push whomever he plays to the absolute limit. His coach, Pete Carroll, is all too aware of that.

He’s a big-play guy,” said Carroll on Friday via Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune. “He’s been able to stretch the field and those that I know that have worked with him and coached him have raved about his talent and play-making ability.”

Carroll is right, Gordon is a big-play guy. Since entering the NFL, he has found a way to scorch just about any defense that he plays. When he is eligible to play (numerous drug-related suspensions), he has averaged 17.1 yards per reception — on 240 career receptions.

Gordon will not play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. However, despite his recent bone bruise knee injury, he should be good to go for the following weeks.
