The Seattle Seahawks have come to terms with running back Rashaad Penny on a one-year free agent deal, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider has brought back Penny on a deal worth $5.75 million, although the versatile running back will have the chance to earn up to $6.5 million in the upcoming 2022 season.

Rapoport further adds that Penny had the opportunity to receive “more money elsewhere.” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll noted during the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine that he wanted to “get him back,” and now his wish has been granted, as Penny will return to the team for what will be his fifth campaign in Seattle.

Penny is coming off of his most productive season in the NFL, as first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron opened up the playbook for him over the course of the campaign. He finished the year with career highs across the board, including in yards from scrimmage (797) and total touchdowns (six).

Injuries did once again sideline Penny from crucial games. For one, he was ruled out from five games in the first half of the campaign due to a calf injury. He was healthy for much of the second half of the season, which included recording 300-plus rushing yards in December and January.

As it stands, Penny is expected to form a one-two punch alongside Chris Carson at the running back position for the Seahawks in the 2022 season.
