Following the blockbuster trade that sent Jadeveon Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks, the Houston Texans are paying $7 million of his salary while Seattle will pay the remaining $8 million. Additionally, the Seahawks have promised not to franchise tag Clowney after the 2019 season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

On Saturday, the Texans sent Clowney to the Seahawks in exchange for Barkevious Mingo, Jacob Martin, and a third-round pick. The premier edge-rusher joins a group in Seattle that includes Ezekiel Ansah, Bobby Wagner, and K.J. Wright.

This whole situation began with Houston placing their franchise tag on Clowney to begin the offseason. As a result, the Texans' pass-rusher decided to holdout from training camp in hopes to land a new deal with the team who drafted him.

Throughout training camp, the Texans were sending mixed signals on when Clowney was going to join back with the team. The original time frame for his return was set for after Week 3 of the preseason, but their former No. 1 pick never showed.

Ultimately, trade rumors began to make their rounds in the media. The Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Seahawks were all rumored to be interested in his services.

In the end, Seattle landed the 26-year-old pass-rushing specialist for a fairly cheap price. In comparison, the Oakland Raiders were able to land two first-round picks and two other draft picks for Khalil Mack.

The Seahawks acquired Clowney knowing that there would be a chance he departs in 2020. As a sign of respect, Seattle is promising Clowney that they won't franchise tag him for the second straight season.

If there's anything we learned from the Mack trade it's that an elite pass-rusher can make a vast difference for a team. Clowney isn't as good as Mack, but Seattle will still benefit from having an edge-rusher who has 18.5 sacks in the past two seasons.
