The NFL rumor mill has been lacking lately due to it being the month of June. Nearly every roster is set for the upcoming season but there are still a handful of big moves that can come to fruition. Many speculate the Cleveland Browns will trade Baker Mayfield, as the Carolina Panthers have expressed interest repeatedly. Now, the Seattle Seahawks may have entered the chat.

According to Josina Anderson, the Seahawks “have a high level of interest in acquiring Baker Mayfield.” Additionally, rumors are Seattle is open to giving Mayfield a contract extension after a trade is finalized. This of course is speculation for now, but trade talks are likely heating up with training camp right around the corner.

It may come down to a race between the Seahawks and Panthers. They're the only teams in the league who desperately need an upgrade at quarterback and Baker Mayfield clearly needs a fresh start elsewhere. Early reports claim Carolina negotiated a deal during the NFL Draft, but ultimately chose to select Matt Corral in the third round.

Mayfield might just be the best option for Seattle moving forward. Pete Carroll refuses to acknowledge a rebuild and the current Browns quarterback is still young enough for the front office to build around. Additionally, he's a considerable upgrade compared to Geno Smith and Drew Lock. Even so, the Seahawks need to hurry up if they're going to finalize a trade, as the Panthers are continuously rumored to be interested in Baker Mayfield.

It looks like we officially have a trade race on our hands. So keep an eye on the Seahawks and Panthers for now, as a potential deal could come to fruition in the coming weeks.
