The Seattle Seahawks reportedly want a first-round NFL Draft pick from the Dallas Cowboys in a trade for safety Earl Thomas.

Jean-Jacques Taylor of 103.3 ESPN Dallas also reported Wednesday:

“A source said the Cowboys had some conversations w/Seattle about Earl Thomas, but Seahawks set HIGH price and Thomas wants deal that makes him among game’s highest-paid safeties, so talks never got serious.”

This is not the first time Thomas, a Texas native, has been linked with a return to his home state. He told the Cowboys to come and get him in some comments he made at around Christmas time.

Thomas has been a Pro Bowl selection in six of his eight seasons, all of which he's spent in Seattle. While seeing the report that the Seahawks wants a first-round pick for him might seem outrageous, it is unlikely Dallas would get a player anywhere near his ability when they pick in the upcoming draft.

The Seahawks are likely toying with moving on from Thomas since he's entering the last year of his contract and would likely demand to be the highest paid safety in the entire National Football League when his deal is up. Given how Seattle has already moved on from Richard Sherman, it does appear as though the franchise is making maneuvers to clear up future cap space.

Obviously, just because Seattle is looking for a first-round pick from Dallas it does not mean he will be traded. The Seahawks could eventually decide to retain the dynamic safety for next season.
