Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s bold take won’t please Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is brimming with confidence that only trophies put him below the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Not all legendary players can defy the laws of time like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and the 39-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The AC Milan striker, who has never won the Ballon d’Or award in his 20-year career, has once again delighted the media with his sensible quips, saying it’s not him that misses the Ballon d’Or award but it’s the other way around.
“No, if anything it’s the Ballon d’Or that is missing me,” Ibahimovic said in a recent interview with France Football via Football Italia.
Further adding to his claim, Ibrahimovic stressed that he’s the “best in the world” and that Ronaldo and Messi are only above him because they happened to play for more successful clubs.
“If we are talking about intrinsic quality, then they [Ronaldo and Messi] have nothing more than m,” the outspoken Serie A forward pointed out. “If we consider trophies, then yes, I didn’t win the Champions League.
“I don’t know what criteria they use to decide who gets the award, because I am not obsessed with it,” he added. “When a collective works, the individual inevitably benefits from that. An individual cannot do well if the team isn’t solid. Deep down, I do think that I am the best in the world.”
Ibrahimovic has fully recovered from a knee injury he sustained in May and is ready to make his Serie A season debut this weekend against Lazio.
