Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is off to a fantastic start to this season, as he’s been nearly unstoppable so far. In fact, by scoring 33 points during Tuesday’s heartwrenching 133-132 overtime road loss to the Detroit Pistons, the hulking Sixers big man added to his solid NBA resume, becoming just the first player since Allen Iverson 12 years ago to stitch together three-straight 30-point performances.

Against the Pistons, Embiid threw his weight around the paint, knocking down 11 of his 20 shots from the field, while also draining 11 of his 14 attempts from the charity stripe. He also added 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in 39 minutes of floor duty, albeit in a losing effort. Embiid’s current 30-point streak started when he dropped 30 points in a 127-108 win against the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 18 and followed that up with a 32-point eruption that helped lift the Sixers past the Orlando Magic on Oct. 20, 116-115.

Allen Iverson’s streak in 2006 was better and longer, though. The diminutive scoring machine averaged a dizzying 39.6 points on 44.2 percent shooting from the field over a four-game span that also included a pair of 40-point outbursts.

Joel Embiid can extend his streak to four games, though, this coming Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks on the road. On the season, Embiid is averaging 29.5 points on 51.9 field goal shooting percentage, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game.

Iverson shares the franchise record with Wilt Chamberlain for the longest 30-point scoring streaks with eight.
