Sixers general manager Elton Brand fired back at Bruce Bowen for revealing the details of a meeting that he had with the team prior to a game earlier this season.

Bowen explained what he said in the pregame speech as part of an appearance on Tuesday's airing of ESPN's Get Up:

As you might expect, Brand was less than pleased with Bowen for revealing the details of his speech to the team:

“Regarding Bruce Bowen, I really don't know what he's talking about,” via Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice. “And, usually, when you're asked to speak at a meeting for a team, you don't go talk about it on ESPN. So I'm sure he won't be invited back to any of my meetings.”

Brett Brown, who was relieved of his head coaching duties with the Sixers earlier this week, brought Bowen in for a pregame speech in December. Bowen was known as a defensive specialist in his playing days, but his speech backfired.

As part of a story for the Philly Inquirer, Keith Pompey narrated how Bowen somehow thought that shouting at Sixers star Joel Embiid was a good motivational tactic:

Bowen lectured the players about cherishing their roles, whatever they might be. He created an awkward environment, according to multiple league sources. The 13-year veteran singled out Embiid, yelling, “I ain’t scared of you” three times while walking toward the big man. Realizing the approach was having a negative effect, Bowen told Embiid he was only joking. However, the center was noticeably upset and went on to struggle in that night’s 123-96 loss to the Spurs. Folks in the room felt as if the speech was scripted.

Brand and the Sixers find themselves out of the playoffs after being swept by the Boston Celtics in the opening round. There has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not the team will be looking to keep its current roster in tact this offseason, but Brand has said that he would like to keep Simmons and Embiid aboard. However, it sounds like Bowen won't be invited for any more pregame speeches.
