UPDATE (1/17): Embiid will play, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

The Philadelphia 76ers take on the Indiana Pacers on Thursday, and Sixers star big man Joel Embiid is a game-time decision.

Joel Embiid is dealing with back stiffness.

The Sixers enter Thursday with a record of 29-16, good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Joel Embiid has played in 42 games this season for Philly. The All-Star center is averaging 27.0 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field, 31.1 percent from beyond the arc and 80.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Embiid is coming off a monster game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 24-year-old scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the Sixers' 149-107 beat down of the Timberwolves.

Joel Embiid has registered 37 double-doubles and one triple-double this year. He will warm up before the Pacers game and test out his back. Indiana is 29-14 on the year. They are in the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings, so this is a big game on Thursday between two of the best teams in the East.

The Sixers are 28-14 on the season when Joel Embiid plays. He has missed only three games this season after having injuries issues the previous years. Back stiffness, especially for a big guy like Embiid, is not something to take lightly, though, so Philly should monitor Embiid carefully.
