The Philadelphia 76ers have selected Elton Brand to be their next general manager, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Brand will be elevated from his current position of vice president of basketball operations.

Brand is expected to be introduced as GM in a press conference on Thursday. He reportedly made a strong impression on head coach Brett Brown, who has been acting as interim general manager after the franchise parted ways with Bryan Colangelo back in June over the infamous burner account scandal. Brown had hinted Tuesday that the new general manager would be revealed soon.

In addition to Brand and other internal candidates, the Sixers talked about the job with several external candidates. Philly initially aimed high by showing interest in elite candidates like Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford, but after they were rebuffed they set their sights a little lower. The Sixers talked to Golden State Warriors assistant GM Larry Harris, Houston Rockets executive vice president Gersson Rosas and Utah Jazz assistant GM Justin Zanik. Rosas and Zanik got second interviews before Brand ultimately got the gig.

Brand has plenty of experience within the Sixers' organization, both as a player and executive. He joined  the team on a five-year contract in 2008 and played in Philly for four seasons before getting released in 2012 via the amnesty clause. After stints with the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks, he retired from the league.

However, Brand came out of retirement in 2016 and rejoined Philly for one last hurrah. He played 17 games with the Sixers during the 2015-16 season to officially finish out his career.

After his playing career was over, Brand joined the Sixers as a player development consultant. He has worked his way up the organization the last few years, including a stint as GM of the Delaware Blue Coats (formerly known as the Delaware 87ers), Philly's G League affiliate.

Now, Brand will be running the show of a Sixers team that should be a contender in the East for years to come.

Woj also announced other front-office moves:

Brand's Sixers open training camp next week and begin their regular season in Boston on Oct. 16.
