The Philadelphia 76ers long process to find a new general manager continues as Gersson Rosas and Justin Zanik look to be distinct possibilities. According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com, Rosas and Zanik are getting second interviews with Philadelphia. Rosas is currently the vice president of the Houston Rockets. Justin Zanik is the assistant general manager for the Utah Jazz.
The Sixers have taken their time in their search for a new general manager. Bryan Colangelo resigned after a truly unique situation unfolded involving Colangelo's wife and secret Twitter accounts. Head coach, Brett Brown took over as interim head of basketball operations.
Philly appears to want to bring in someone who can fit their culture. They already turned down David Griffin because they wanted to have someone who would be part of a collaborative decision-making process. They don't want someone who wants final say on basketball decisions. Perhaps Rosas and Zanik could be good fits for what Sixers ownership is looking for.
Whoever gets the job is inheriting a great situation. The Sixers have two transcendent young stars in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. They have decent flexibility with their cap space. Not to mention, they play in the weak Eastern Conference so deep playoff runs are likely to be a staple of the future.
There is still no public timetable for when the Sixers plan to make their decision. Prior to the season seems likely, but there are no guarantees. Until then, Sixers fans will have to sit and wait.
