Don’t sleep on the Philadelphia 76ers making a move up in next Thursday’s NBA Draft. In an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin revealed that Philadelphia is aggressively looking to trade up in the draft. How high exactly? Griffin said the Sixers are looking to get a top-five pick.

As of the moment, the Sixers have two first-round picks. They own the rights to the No. 10 and No. 26 overall picks. They also have four picks in the second round (38, 39, 56, 60).

The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly willing to trade their No. 4 pick along with the onerous contract of Chandler Parsons. Assuming that the Sixers will not re-sign shooting guard J.J. Redick and big man Amir Johnson, the team does appear to have the cap space to absorb Parsons’ contract, which will cost Philadelphia $49.2 million over the next two seasons. Minus the cap holds, the Sixers are only currently committed to pay $70.5 million in salaries for 2018-19. The salary cap for next season is expected to rise to $101 million.

This year’s draft is perceived to be one of the deepest in recent memory, so if there’s a good time for the Sixers to make a move up the draft, this year could be it. In the event Philly secures a top-five pick, they will have bigger shot at taking anyone from the likes of Mohamed Bamba, Jaren Jackson Jr., Michael Porter Jr., Marvin Bagley III, and Luka Doncic to name a few.
