Smile 2 just dropped a debut teaser trailer featuring not-so-pleasant smiling faces.

Parker Finn’s follow-up shows new characters and a premise different than the original. Finn directed it from his script, Deadline reports. And within the first few seconds of the clip — you’ll be freaked out.

The official logline states: “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”

Smile 2 official teaser trailer

The teaser shows Skye amongst her fans performing onstage. She’s also seen rehearsing and sitting in an auditorium by herself. From there, she smeared some lipstick, giving her actions an almost Joker-like vibe.

Footsteps are heard behind her as she looks to investigate what or who it could be.

“Hello?” Riley says.

Immediately, a guy named Lewis comes barreling in, screaming at the top of his lungs. “Skye!” he yells. From there, he’s looking up at the ceiling, saying, “No, get away from me!”

The pop star looks confused as she glances in the direction that he’s staring.

“What? What is it?” she yells at him.

“Get away from me!” he shouts.

Lewis is on the ground, glances up at her, and — you guessed it — smiles. He then takes a weight and smashes it into his face, and the screen fades to black.

It cuts to a new cityscape scene, and Skye says, “Something really crazy is happening to me. I keep seeing this face everywhere.”

“You witnessed a death. Now it’s latching on to you,” someone tells her.

From there, smiles are coming from seemingly everyone. “Stop smiling at me!” Skye shouts as you see a wicked-looking gentleman doing exactly that.

She’s seen running away from people chasing her in a corridor and then being held down.

It concludes in an airport. “That’s — that’s a pretty cool shirt you got,” the singer says. “Want me to sign it?”

It’s revealed that a child is smiling at her, creeping everyone watching out even more, as she attempts to sign the shirt she’s wearing.

The film also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner, Lukas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl  Castillo, Dylan Gelula, and Ray Nicholson.

Smile was a hit when it was released in 20222. It was one of the highest-grossing horror films of the year, with $217 million grossed worldwide. Finn’s 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept inspired it, which won South by Southwest a Special Jury Recognition award. The movie starred Sosie Bacon as Dr. Rose Cotter, a therapist who experiences strange events after witnessing an unfortunate situation with a patient.

We’ll see what Smile 2 has in store on October 18. We’ll either walk out of the theater smiling — or terrified.
