Space Jam fans were not too pleased when they learned that Lola Bunny won't be rocking her OG from the original 1996 film. Snippets from the sequel, officially titled as Space Jam: A New Legacy (also known as Space Jam 2), revealed a “less sexual” version of every '90s kid's favorite female bunny in the upcoming film.

In case you missed it, here is the 1996 version of Lola Bunny compared to the 2021 version, which stars Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James:

Enthusiasts of the original film, which featured Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, flooded social media with complaints. Others sarcastically made fun of the appearance change, while others petitioned to bring Lola back to her original form. Here are some reactions from fans on Twitter.

Per Nick Sutherland of Give Me Sport, Space Jam 2 director Malcolm D. Lee revealed the reason why they made the change in Lola's appearance:

Speaking about the Lola character recently, director Malcolm D. Lee revealed that he was “caught off guard” by how overly sexualised she had been when rewatching the first Space Jam.

“This is 2021. It's important to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters,” said Lee of the move to change Lola's appearance.

There are tons of differing opinions on Lola's appearance change on social media. While some expressed disappointment, others were pleased with the progressive reasoning for the change.

Much like in the original movie, Space Jam 2 will feature LeBron James playing alongside Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the revamped version of Lola Bunny as they take on a team of intergalactic aliens on the hardwood.
