San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson says it was “surprising and disappointing” that Kawhi Leonard wasn't happy in San Antonio.

Leonard requested a trade from the Spurs last summer after only playing in nine games in 2017-18. The three-time All-Star reportedly wasn't pleased with how his quadriceps injury was handled.

San Antonio traded Leonard, Danny Green and cash to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 1st round draft pick on July 18, 2018.

“That was tough,” Robinson said, via Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “Obviously, the whole Kawhi situation was kind of a nightmare situation for us, right? He was the perfect guy to follow Tim (Duncan), and to see that he really wasn't happy here was surprising and disappointing and all of that. It felt like we were having to re-start our gears a little bit.”

Leonard was a two-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP with the Spurs. Everyone thought he was going to be the next Tim Duncan in the sense that he would spend his entire career with the Spurs.

However, Leonard's relationship with the Spurs soured last season and the star small forward made it known he couldn't play in San Antonio anymore after everything that happened with his injury.

Spurs fans haven't and probably won't ever forgive Leonard. He was booed viciously by the San Antonio faithful when he made his return to the AT&T Center earlier this season.
