The San Antonio Spurs suffered a huge blow amid their highly anticipated Texas showdown with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night. Apparently, Dejounte Murray suffered a left ankle sprain, forcing him out for the rest of the contest.

Murray landed awkwardly on his ankle after contesting a shot against Mavs big man Kristaps Porzingis and never returned.

With Murray leaving the game early, Spurs veteran guard Patty Mills figures to see the bulk of minutes running the point.

Mills is still a solid player by all means, but the effect of losing Murray will be felt if he has to remain out for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, that's not the case and the best-case scenario is he returns for the Spurs' next contest.

While the replay didn't seem like a major injury for Murray, the fact that he left the game and won't return doesn't bode well for the Spurs.

Dejounte Murray has been one of the bright spots for the surprising Spurs this year. The former Washington Husky is averaging 15.8 points per game, with 7.3 boards and 5.5 assists to start the year as San Antonio has jumped out to an 8-7 record in the first chunk of the NBA season.

Needless to say, coach Gregg Popovich has been doing this for a long time, so finding someone to plug-and-play isn't anything new for the veteran coach.
