San Antonio Spurs wing DeMarre Carroll has played for eight different teams across his 11-year NBA career, so it's safe to say he knows how the league works by now.

Carroll's name also circulated throughout trade rumors earlier this month during the NBA trade deadline. As a veteran 3-and-D player, Carroll offers an enticing option for teams to add a locker room presence and tough, gritty defender.

However, as the deadline approached, Caroll knew he would be a Spur for at least the rest of the season.

Per Tom Orsborn of My San Antonio.

When asked if he was surprised a trade didn’t happen, Carroll said, “Yeah, but no. Me being 33 and being in the league 11, 12 years, I know the NBA. If you really want to trade somebody, the biggest thing you have to do is maybe show their value, play them a little bit. Not playing really hurt my value a lot. It got a lot of teams probably second-guessing and saying, ‘Is he hurt? Is something wrong with him?’ ”

Admittedly, Carroll's playing time in his first season in San Antonio has taken a deep dive. After playing over 25 minutes per game for the Brooklyn Nets last season, the 6-foot-6 forward has played in just 15 total games for the Spurs this season and contributing 9.0 minutes a contest.

Additionally, DeMarre Carroll has been less than impressive in the few chances he has gotten with the Spurs  this season. For the 2019-20 campaign, the veteran is averaging 2.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting a career-low 31 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from deep.

The Spurs did not make any big move at the deadline, also opting to keep both DeMar deRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge. They are currently outside the playoff picture with a 23-31 record, five games behind the eighth seed.
