San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich left his recently-retired player Manu Ginobili with an open invitation to join his coaching staff. That invitation included allowing him to tag along for the annual coaches' retreat, where Ginobili did a lot of listening and observing, but it wouldn't take too long before he chipped in with some comments of his own.

“He was a great addition,” Gregg Popovich said, according to ABS-CBN News. “Because he was smart enough to listen in the beginning. It's like a new job in a way. You listen and you figure out the lay of the land and he did that… He started to open up. By the second, third, fourth day, he was right in the middle of arguing about everything.”

Manu Ginobili has barely had a few weeks to enjoy his retirement since announcing it this summer and it's unknown if he'd be willing to return to the game right away after 23 years of professional experience.

Popovich left an invitation for his longtime player, hoping he could join the team during training camp to work alongside him in the sidelines.

“I'm expecting him to come back when he runs out of money,” Popovich said joikingly. “When he can't pay for that boat anymore, he's going to want to come back.”

Ginobili still resides in San Antonio after playing all of his 16 years in The Alamo City. If he decides to join Popovich in the sidelines, it will be already familiar grounds for the Argentinian, but from a very different scope.
