The biggest meeting for the San Antonio Spurs this summer has finally happened. Gregg Popovich and Kawhi Leonard have sat down, not necessarily to mend their differences but to, at least, have a clear direction for their relationship, per Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard met with coach Gregg Popovich on Tuesday in San Diego, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The meeting between the two faces of the Spurs’ franchise was done professionally and confidentially, league sources said.

Leonard's impasse with the Spurs has put the franchise in unfamiliar territory. Traditionally, the organization has been a model of steadiness, electing to do their business in a low-key manner. However, this whole situation has brought in more attention to the team than they would've wanted.

It's been widely believed that Leonard prefers to play near home, making the Los Angeles Lakers and L.A. Clippers his more likely destination with the former being favored. Despite coming off a season where he only played nine games due to a mysterious quad injury, Leonard still remains as one of the league's best players.

If it comes down to it, the Spurs should only look for a massive haul in return for the former Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. However, it won't be easy for other teams to let go of too many assets given the fact that Leonard could end up as a one-year rental.
